Location: Victoria, Australia

Status: Completed Phase 1 2024 Phase 2 deliver second quarter 2025

Port of Melbourne  plays a critical role in Australia’s supply chain, handling more than one-third of the nation’s container trade. As part of the Port of Melbourne’s broader infrastructure upgrade program SJM Rail were engaged to deliver the signalling scope of works for Phase 1 of the project. This made the upgrade essential for improving operational capacity and ensuring long-term efficiency in freight movement.

For phase 2 SJM Rail beam responsible for the design, installation, and commissioning of rail signalling systems across key freight corridors within the port precinct. This included the replacement of legacy equipment, integration with existing infrastructure, and coordination with multiple stakeholders, including principal contractors and government authorities.

Our team worked within a live operational environment, managing tight timeframes and high safety standards while ensuring zero disruption to port logistics and operations. The successful delivery of this phase demonstrated SJM Rail’s ability to execute complex signalling projects in high-pressure, high-traffic environments.

The project stands as a strong example of our technical capability, reliability, and collaborative approach in supporting major infrastructure works.
